Message From The Chair

WOW...the holidays are almost here and now the fun begins shopping, cooking and oh yeah eating. This is my favorite time of the year. I love the colors and aroma of Thanksgiving and I really love black Friday. For those of you that know me, well...I am a shopaholic. Entwined with all the fun is the real meaning of the holidays, which is being thankful for all my blessings.
When I am counting my blessings, I always count each and every one of you. Tri-State is blessed with so many gifted and talented professionals. There are times when I just want to pack up and walk away, especially when I become overwhelmed with new regulations; reports; software issues; and every day trials of helping students. However, there is always some saving presence that brings me back with their helpful voice on the other end of the phone, an answered email with suggestions or the helpful IM friend typing an answer to my question. Tri-State members are blessings to our students, our institutions/employers, and each other.
Among these Tri-State members are the Executive Board. I am truly blessed to have each and every one of them. Someone asked me at the fall conference, "Are you ready to give up being the chair?" My reply was "no, I have one of the easiest jobs on the board all of the work is done by the chairs and their committees." My famous words to the chairs are "just let me know what you want me to do." However, they never seem to need me. The executive board members are very dedicated financial aid professionals and as an organization we are truly blessed that each of them agreed to serve on the board for this year.
Speaking of committees doing all the work...There have been some great training and professional growth opportunities over the past few months. The Neophyte Workshop was a great success in the beginning of October, the Legislative Briefing in the middle of October benefitted Congressional Offices and Financial Aid Professionals and the Fall Conference in November was fantastic. Now do not get upset if you missed out on these events there are plenty more on the way.
Remember, if you have any suggestions for me or the committees please feel free to contact us.
I hope everyone has a restful and happy holiday season.
Hope to see all of you soon,
