Message From The Chair

Hello Tri-State! Most of this article is the welcome from the homepage of the website. If you haven't seen it, then GREAT! It's new to you. If you have, I guess it could warrant a re-read. I'm not much of a writer so I don't think it's painfully long. I do want to thank you for the opportunity to serve as Chair for 2010-2011. If you have any questions or suggestions on how I and the rest of the Executive Board can make the Association better for you and your staff, please contact me. We love new ideas. If we are not meeting your needs, we need to know about it.

Over the past year, the Executive Board took a hard look at what, why, and how we do business. Our Past Chair stated it best when he said "radical change" may be needed in order to continue. We are not working in the same world we were four years ago or even a year ago. Times have changed and continue to change, but no one ever said Financial Aid was boring! The political and economic environments have caused us to face new challenges. We as an industry and Association have weathered the storm. We have faced and continue to face great challenges, but not by sitting idly by and hoping everything works out. We must embrace new ways of doing business, not just in our offices but also in the Association.

It's not all about change. We do many things very well and will continue to monitor and inform members of new regulations, provide input when asked by our regional and national associations, and promote professional growth and collaborations of our members in order to fairly serve the needs of students, families, and institutions.

Tri-State remains appreciative of the volunteer efforts of so many members. I am honored to work with all our dedicated co-chairs and volunteers who further the work of our Association. They have done an excellent job over the past year and are tasked to continue to do more with less. It's our volunteers that will help us get to where we need to be. I encourage all members to get more involved either for the first time or in something new. Please join me this year in taking the opportunity to get involved in the next phase of the financial aid profession or to continue your support of Tri-State.

The 2010 Fall Conference is only weeks away and will provide the training and reflection needed to take us through the next year. Please plan to join us November 7-9, 2010 at Dover Downs in Dover, Delaware. Hope to see you there!

Thank you again for the opportunity to serve as Chair of Tri-State.
