    The Financial Literacy and Education Program Specialist is responsible for the overall planning, coordination and delivery of financial literacy programming and education to promote and support students’ financial wellness. The incumbent will implement educational programs and activities targeting a diverse student audience and across a broad range of personal financial management topics, including but not limited to: budgeting, savings, credit, debt, retirement and investment.

    Working in collaboration with the Financial Literacy and Education Committee and the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships, the Financial Literacy and Education Program Specialist is responsible for the day-to-day logistical planning, promotion, execution, evaluation and assessment of new and existing financial education programs and activities. Specific duties include:

    • Leading the planning, promotion and delivery of signature campus financial education programs, including FinancialSmarts CashCourse, CASHCoach, CashClips and Money Smart Week
    • Assisting in the development and execution of a campus-wide financial literacy awareness and promotion campaign including a robust social media campaign leveraging traditional social media outlets and myUMBC
    • Assisting with the planning and coordination of other key UMBC financial education programs such as the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) 
    • Assisting with the planning and delivery of outreach efforts through the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships
    • Serving as lead instructor for the online (Bb) FinancialSmarts CashCourse
    • Coordinating with campus partners in the delivery of individual, on-demand workshops and activities for targeted student audiences
    • Updating and maintaining the financialsmarts.umbc.edu website
    • Leading the on-going tracking, evaluation and assessment of financial literacy programmatic efforts
    • Leveraging existing literature, studies, surveys and other insights to identify other student needs, programs and practices in the area of personal financial management; completing and maintaining training certification in financial literacy education
    • Planning and leading the monthly Financial Literacy and Education Committee meetings
    • Hiring, training and supervising the Financial Literacy Student Program Assistant
    • Hiring, training and supervising a team of student Peer Mentors
    • Performing other duties as assigned

    Primary Job Duties: The primary purpose of this position is to serve as the Financial Aid Office's first point of contact for students and parents, providing counseling to students regarding financial aid eligibility through in-person, phone, and email conversations. Under direct supervision, the position receives and reviews input and output data for accuracy, completeness, and adherence to financial aid processes and policies.     Reporting to the Associate Director of Financial Aid (Operations) and working closely with the management staff, the incumbent will be the main point of contact for other compliance and audit staff members; be responsible for utilizing their knowledge of federal and state regulations and institutional policies and procedures to ensure accurate awarding of federal, state and institutional funds; acting as a resource regarding changes to federal, state, institutional and departmental policies; and contributing to the effectiveness of information disseminated to staff and students. The coordination of these tasks is supported through a variety of duties and include: performing quality assurance reviews; compiling, editing and maintaining the department policy and procedures manual; monthly reconciliation of Pell and Direct Loan accounts; completing Return of Title IV (R2T4) calculations; reviewing federal registers, announcements and other financial aid resources; ensuring that the OFaS business Continuity Dashboard is current; serving on Compliance and Audit workgroup and serving as backup for duties assigned to the unit. This individual will assist the Associate Director when making recommendations regarding the improvement of our processes based on regulatory changes and best practices and perform other duties as assigned. Specific duties include:

    • ·       Complete Return of Title IV (R2T4) calculations per federal regulations to encure the institution   remains in compliance.
    • ·       Reconciliation of the direct Loan and Pell accounts to ensure the institution remains in compliance with federal standards. Resolve issues with loan and pell transmissions. Work with office of Contracts and Grants Accounting (OCGA) for reconciliation between COD,PS and G5.
    • Performing quality assurance reviews of student fin aid and scholarship files to ensure that the correct procedures were followed when the file was processed. Utilizing knowledge of federal, state and institutional regulations/policies and procedures to make decisions that could affect a student's financial aid eligibiity.
    • Serve as unit lead and main point of contact for other compliance and audit staff.
    • Compiling, editing and maintaining the department's policy and procedures (P&P) manual and business process guides. Regularly monitor the department's Business Continuity Dashboard to ensure that it contains current information. Update P&P manual in NASFAA with any edits.
    • Review federal registers, Dear Colleague Letters, announcements and other financial aid resources for policy changes and updates. Disseminate information to staff; make recommendations that could enhance our processing procedures.
    • Create Docusign forms as needed for the department
    • Annual setup for R2T4 and COD

    Preferred Qualilfications:

    ·       At least one year experience within a financial aid office performing various duties, strong written and verbal communication skills and attention to detail is required. In addition, the successful candidate will have the ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment and be able to evaluate and assess areas of conflict and coordinate resolution. Computer proficiency, experience performing R2T4 calculations and knowledge of the Pell reconciliation process is preferred.

    General Description
    Primarily responsible for providing technical oversight to the Financial Aid Office as it relates to the student information system and other software products utilized in the delivery of federal, state, and institutional financial aid. The Associate Director of Financial Aid Operations and Technology is assigned responsibilities related to the configuration, operation, and maintenance of technology platforms used to capture, store, and process information used in the administration of financial aid. The Associate Director participates directly in the design and execution of operational activities that result in the timely and accurate awarding, disbursement, and tracking of student aid. The Associate Director ensures that his/her work, and that of assigned staff, is in compliance with state, federal, NCAA, and institutional regulations. 

    Examples of Duties

    University System of Record:  Work with University partners (i.e., admissions, registrar, Student Accounts, IT) to ensure that the University's system of record (Banner) is properly configured to capture and report financial aid data; ensure that all functionality of the system is optimized in support of efficient and robust operations.

    External/Auxillary Systems:  Ensure that the multitude of external and auxiliary systems used by financial aid in the administration of aid are set-up and used effectively in daily operations (Campus Logic, Automic, COD, CPS, SAIG, TD Client, EdConnect, EdExpress, NSLDS, as well as ELM online services).

    Reporting Platforms:  Work with University partners (i.e. IT, Campus Logic, etc.) to ensure that the University's reporting platforms are properly configured to report financial aid data.

    Data Imports:  Set-up and support the routine import of data into the technology platforms. Data

    Integration:  Ensure that information flows between systems in a logical, efficient, and accurate way; leverage the expertise of IT partners to optimize the integration of all technology/data platforms.

    Data/System Auditing:  Conduct audits of data and systems to ensure the integrity of information.

    Financial Aid Operations:  Ensure the timely and accurate packaging and disbursement of student aid; ensure the effective flow of information and documentation throughout the process; ensure the full implementation of all institutional aid programs.

    Troubleshooting:  Serve as a contact in trouble-shooting technology and operational issues that hinder the flow of applicants through the financial aid process.

    Regulatory Compliance:  Ensure compliance with all state, federal, NCAA, and institutional regulations; stay abreast of changes related to compliance.

    Process Engineering and Documentation:  Ensure that all processes are optimized and documented.

    Key Collaborations:  Work extensively with DSU colleagues as well as external vendors, service providers, and government agencies on the effective administration of aid.

    Staff Management:  Directly manage employees as assigned (includes hiring, onboarding, training, performance management); serve as the point of contact in the absence of the team leader.

    Financial Aid Leadership Responsibilities:  As a member of the Financial Aid team, contribute to efforts related to planning, policy and procedure development, quality assurance and effectiveness, and team management.     Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

    • Perform quality assurance monitoring for inbound/outbound calls and case management responses to assess front line staff accuracy, customer services performance and provide feedback/recommendations to team leaders.

Determine that unusual and extenuating family circumstances may affect the ability to pay for college expenses and look for ways to help students wherever possible.  Make professional judgments to adjust financial aid eligibility due to these extenuating circumstances.   Review student appeals for academic issues and looks for ways to assist them.

    Salisbury University is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Financial Aid Counselor I in the office of Financial Aid. 

     

    Primary Job Duties: The primary purpose of this position is to serve as the Financial Aid Office's first point of contact for students and parents, providing counseling to students regarding financial aid eligibility through in-person, phone, and email conversations. Under direct supervision, the position receives and reviews input and output data for accuracy, completeness, and adherence to financial aid processes and policies. Must exercise discretion and frequent independent judgment and action with moderate consequence of error.

     

    Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree and one year of professional experience in financial aid, higher education, accounting, or business.  Additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.

     

    Thorough knowledge of team office practices, procedures and equipment; of business English, grammar, spelling, and punctuation. General knowledge of the principles of team leadership and office management. Skill in interpreting and applying departmental policies and procedures; in operating manual and automated office equipment including personal computers and related software; in composing correspondence electronically and through postal mail, compiling statistical data, and preparing reports; in performing mathematical computations; creation and maintenance of paper and computer files; in effective telephone usage; in organizing, coordinating, and executing multiple assignments under specific time constraints. Ability to maintain poise and courtesy under pressure; to project a positive and professional image; to interact with students, parents and staff at all levels in a courteous and efficient manner; to lead analysis of clerical problems and selection of corrective action; to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; to establish and maintain effective work relationships both within and outside the team. Ability to maintain confidentiality of information and handle sensitive information with discretion and tact. Knowledge and skill in the use of Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Word and Excel is required.

     

    Preferred Qualifications: PeopleSoft experience preferred.

     

    This is a full-time, non-exempt, State position with a full benefits package. Starting hourly rate is $18.16, which is approximately $37,863 annually.  There will be a 2.5% pay increase after successful completion of a 6-month probation period.

    The Office of Academic Affairs, Enrollment Administration / Student Financial Assistance is recruiting for two (2) Financial Aid Counselors OR Senior Financial Aid Counselors. The selected candidate will serve as the point person for financial aid for one or more of the seven (7) professional schools at the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB). The Counselor practices counseling and decision-making with principles that are sensitive to the challenges of students in their assigned cohort, while adhering to the U.S. Department of Education and University Student Financial Assistance & Enrollment Services Policies and Procedures.

    • Assists with adjustments to students’ federal work-study awards.
    • Performs other related duties as assigned.

    Senior Financial Aid Counselor

    • Provides leadership and counseling to students, families, and the University community. Counseling responsibilities include advising on financial literacy, realistic goal setting for borrowing as well as providing individual entrance and exit counseling for students who request this service.
    • Serves as a team leader for the Financial Aid Counselors and works with senior management to identify training needs and process improvement.
    • Responsible for orienting and training others, and assigning and reviewing their work. May also be responsible for acting in a “lead” or “senior” capacity over other financial aid counselors.
    • Assist the leadership team in monitoring and adjusting financial aid in excess of financial need.
    • Analyzes workflow and various processes relating to financial aid packaging and awarding.
    • Assists in the annual review and revision of departments Policies and Procedures Manual.
    • Participates in activities relating to the federal verification process.
    • Participates in school orientation programs and outreach events.
    • Serves as point person for federal exit counseling and delinquent borrowers follow up.
    • Follows established policy and procedures for awarding recouped scholarship funds during the fall and spring term.
    • Reviews requests for budget increases and makes recommendations to the management on behalf of the student. Completes processing of financial aid requests from students including but not limited to federal verification and federal loan processing. May assist in federal work study.
    • Evaluates financial aid applications and determines amount/configuration of aid packages for students ensuring the University is in compliance with state, federal, and institutional policies governing financial aid.
    • Ensures financial aid data is processed accurately and students accept the funds they are eligible to receive.
    • Perform other related duties as assigned.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Manage all aspects of financial aid processing for undergraduate, graduate, and professional students. This includes responsibility for determining eligibility, processing awards, and monitoring eligibility status. Provide outbound customer services to address student and family inquiries. Address questions and concerns providing high quality customer service.  

    Support retention and enrollment efforts. Meet with prospective and current students for individual or group sessions for financial aid counseling and financial literacy. Conduct financial aid outreach workshops as requested and participate in other recruitment, orientation and retention events.

    Support other OFA staff members and other departments (Admissions, Records/Registration, Bursar, Advisors, and Student Success and Support Services) on financial aid programs and to address student status requests. This includes responding to student requests, handle issues escalated from front line staff, and supporting senior counselors and the Associate Director with special programs (Direct Loan, Pell, MHEC, etc.).

    Ensure the integrity of data and program accuracy through the continual review of financial aid data and system-generated output, queries, and reports. This includes participation in program reconciliations. Use PeopleSoft student information and other systems to perform role. Develop and enhance technology and system skills.

    Required Qualifications

    Education: Bachelor's degree

    Experience: One year of professional experience in higher education, accounting, business, or customer service

    Preferred Qualifications

    Education: Some Master's level course work

    Experience: Two years’ experience in higher education financial aid and/or student financial programs dealing with students and families. One year of PeopleSoft or other electronic financial aid management system.
