The University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) is seeking a Financial Aid Counselor for the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships.  The incumbent is responsible for counseling and advising current and prospective students and their families on the federal, state and institutional financial aid programs and assisting with the removal of barriers to receive educational funding. With a student-centered focus, the Counselor provides information on policies, procedures and eligibility of financial aid programs.

Specific duties include:

  • Analyze and process student financial aid records, including federal verification, certification of loans, awarding grants, evaluating/reviewing student files and reconciling student accounts
  • Participate in orientation programs, outreach and awareness events on and off campus
  • Act as the lead for one or more financial aid programs
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Required Minimum Qualifications include:

  • Requires a Bachelor's Degree
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community
  • Skill in the use of personal computer and related software applications
  • Ability to analyze and solve problems
  • Organization and coordination skills
  • Ability to interpret and implement policies and procedures

Starting salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. This is a full-time position and includes full university benefits.
