Assistant Director of Financial Aid

Capitol College, located in Laurel, Maryland, the only independent college in Maryland dedicated to engineering, computer science, information technology and business, invites applications for an Assistant Director of Financial Aid to join a collaborative and highly engaged Financial Aid Team responsible for stewarding over $10 million of assistance to students, helping them achieve their goal of higher education.  Applicants should possess a strong understanding of the challenges faced by students and their families around the questions of affordability, accessibility and quality education.

The Assistant Director will play a critical role at the College, working closely in the following areas:  1. Guiding students through the process of applying for financial aid; 2.  Counseling families through the guidelines, decision, and ownership of funding; 3.  Partner with key offices to meet the needs of the individual student and the larger dynamic of a thriving college community; 4.  Assist in the administration of all financial aid programs, federal, state, institutional and private ensuring compliance;  5.  Packaging students, completing verification, COD, NSLDS and R2T4 processing, as well as, monitoring enrollment status;  6.  Design and implement financial literacy programs and information; 7. Conduct information sessions and Financial Aid Presentations during Open Houses and various other campus events.  This position will also provide general support for the Director, assuring the smooth operation and delivery of a cohesive, compliant, customer-centered aid program for our student body.  

Candidates must have at minimum a Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of three years of relevant experience in a financial aid office.  Strong communication skills are essential.  The position also requires ability to pay attention to subtle details, a lively sense of humor and strong team orientation.  The position requires strong proficiency in COD, NSLDS, Edconnect and previous financial aid software (Powerfaids preferably) and Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
