MD Committee Report

Submitted by: Pat Shoemaker

MDASFAA had a relatively quiet spring 2012. Because we are not in charge of the Spring Workshop or any of the other training that was done in the area during these months, we mainly concentrated on doing Community Service projects as often as we could.

At the Spring Workshop, we collected several boxes of school supplies for the Tench Tilghman Elementary School, which were greatly appreciated by the students and teachers. On April 15, we put together a team to walk in the first annual "Ronald McDonald House Red Shoe Shuffle". We not only had a beautiful 5K walk through Baltimore, we raised almost $1000 for the Ronald McDonald House!

On May 12, we had a team at the Maryland Food Bank warehouse, sorting food and filling boxes that will be available to people in crisis throughout the state. Several of our members helped the Orioles Wives Club collect non-perishable food and cash at the Orioles games over the June 8-10 weekend, also for the benefit of the Maryland Food Bank; and we have scheduled two more Saturday sessions at the Warehouse for the last two weekends of June.

I'm very excited to turn over the presidential responsibilities to Heather Owens, and I know she'll do a terrific job. I'd like to thank the Committee members for all their help and dedication over the last two years.
